Consistent with the goals of the university’s comprehensive communications program, the
university advertising policy [PDF] has been revised to broaden Rutgers’ ability to communicate directly with key audiences through paid advertisements in print, electronic, and public media.
The revised policy, which was approved by the Board of Governors, now allows for the purchase of advertising in external media to promote Rutgers; its campuses, units, and programs; and the achievements of its faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
The policy also authorizes Rutgers’ Department of University Relations and its Office of Strategic Communications to coordinate this advertising for the university. The purpose of the policy is to ensure that:
- Rutgers, its campuses, and its units are presented to the public in a consistent and coherent manner;
- university resources are used effectively.
In addition, the department will work to secure better rates and placements and provide guidance about how to maximize promotional opportunities.
All Rutgers advertising must be reviewed and approved in advance of placement through the review process found on this website with the exception of:
Approvals will be made in collaboration with the Rutgers–Newark Office of Communications and Camden Campus Communications Office, as appropriate.
